The purpose of conducted research is to design and implement modern digital control systems, including networked-based ones, in industrial environment.
Owing to their flexibility and resilience to disturbances, digital control systems have become an attractive regulatory solution in industrial settings. However, a typical deployment scenario covers only local control structures, where the regulator, controlled object and sensors cooperate with each other directly to realize the control task. The proliferation of various communication technologies made it possible to create a different class of systems in which the object (or a group of objects) can be steered remotely. The emerging new, promising capabilities of networked control systems, e.g., within the conceptual framework of Internet of Things, can only be captured if one successfully answers the challenges of information exchange in the uncertain network reality.
The scope of conducted research encompasses design and deployment of digital control and diagnostic solutions with the emphasis placed on achieving high operational efficiency while retaining robustness to delay, data loss, and equipment faults.

Applications and Implementations
2003-2010: Input signal diagnostic system deployed in units 6 and 12 of Bełchatów Power Plant. Contamination or damage of just a single sensor out of thousands installed in an energy unit may compromise the entire system performance. A real-time diagnostic system was designed and installed in the industrial setting. The system learns proper relations between the reference and obtained values, and indicates the faulty measurement line when an anomaly is detected.
2005-2015: Machine control system for semitrailer production line at Aluteam facility in Biała Podlaska. The customers specify the desired size and parameters of a semitrailer. The designed system uses the provided information to steer the machines comprising the production line (drillers, riveters, welders, construction bridges, etc.) so that high efficiency is obtained while respecting the individual component constraints. The system has been deployed in a production environment in Poland, Spain, and Germany.
2010-2011: Wind power plant monitoring system for Vent-Energy, Łódź. The generators in wind power plants are placed in the moving, not easily accessible part of the fan head. The developed (and deployed) solution allows one to conduct a detailed, real-time analysis of turbine performance, transmit selected parameters to a remote control station, and execute regulatory actions at the monitored physical object.
2012-2013: Structural strain monitoring in steel-sheeted halls for MHS, Łódź. For economic reasons, the considered constructs are designed with small (not exceeding a few %) security margin. Therefore, sometimes, e.g., during heavy snow, rain, or wind, the structure may be permanently altered, damaged, or even destroyed. The designed system enables real-time monitoring of the strain distribution inside the hall construct, performed both locally and remotely. The system can operate with low quality networks and is robust with respect to communication link failures.
2010-2015: Expert appraisement of data and network security solutions in private companies. Typically, IT projects practical realization leaves room for executing undesirable operations despite the application of theoretically secure communication solutions. The team analyzed both IT system projects and their implementation according to strict security audit requirements. Imperfections and corrective measures were indicated. Effective methods of safe data exchange among the cooperating devices have been proposed.
